Music Ministries

Their anthem repertoire consists of sacred works ranging from J. S. Bach to John Rutter. Rehearsals for the Adult Choir are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the sanctuary, and are directed by Maria Kithcart. During the 2005 Advent season, our women's vocal ensemble (known as Heartsong) was created to encourage the utilization of talent from the ladies of the church, including those who do not regularly sing with the Adult Choir. Directed by Maria Kithcart, the group generally meets from 6:30 - 7:00 PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Heartsong during the Congregational Fish Fry event in May, 2006 Another recent addition to the music ministry of the church was the creation of the Youth Choir. Our junior and senior high students practice once a week during the school year on Sunday evenings beginning at 6:15 PM. The Children's Choir (also known as the Music Makers) meets on Sunday evenings beginning at 6:30 PM during the school year. They work with Maria Kithcart in the sanctuary.
Music Makers with Mrs. Maria Our smallest members form our Cherub Choir. They meet with Mrs. Nita and Mrs. Donna in the Bird's Nest on Sunday evenings at 6:30 PM. Mrs. Nita and Mrs. Donna and members of the Cherub Choir Pickens Presbyterian Church is also very blessed to have a number of instrumentalists who play stringed and wind instruments. On several occasions during the church year, our instrumentalists (who range in age from middle school students to adults) accompany our hymns and perform preludes and other special pieces. Allene Hope (violin) and Jonathan Holder (viola) Pickens Presbyterian Men's Chorus is a select group of male singers from the Pickens area who regularly perform at churches, social gatherings, nursing homes/hospitals, and even prisons. Directed by Dr. Jerry Douglas, they are a well-known vocal group in upstate South Carolina.
