Outreach

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are a community of outreach, both locally and around the world.

Local Mission:

On January 21, 2008, a crowd of people gathered at Pickens Presbyterian for a time of fellowship and refreshments.  The group, led by Robinson Chapel of Liberty, walked to the Pickens County Court House for a special gathering in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  It was a special event that symbolized the unity of God's children.  To see more pictures, click here.

In October 2007 members of Pickens Presbyterian Church and citizens from the greater Pickens community united in a CROP WALK, an event organized to raise awareness of both local and international hunger needs.  The walk is also a means to raise money to address those needs.  The Pickens CROP WALK supports the Pickens Food Pantry, an ecumenical food pantry in Pickens which provides 1,200 - 1,500 boxes of food for families each month, as well as other local efforts to alleviate hunger. The other 75% will support global efforts to reduce hunger.  For more about CROP WALK and Church World Service, click here.

Our annual Crop Walk, September 30, 2007

Warm for the Holidays, our annual clothing giveaway, is held the first Saturday in December from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.  The church accepts clothes for all seasons, including shoes, belts, purses, linens, blankets, toys, etc.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated the southern United States, a group of church members traveled to Mississippi to assist in clean up efforts.

In addition to these efforts, the church maintains a pantry stocked with groceries for those in need, as well as a service fund for residents needing assistance.

Global Mission:

Samaritan's Purse shoebox collection

For the past 11 years, PPC has participated in the Samaritan's Purse "Operation Christmas Child" shoebox drive.  In 2006, we collected nearly 80 boxes of items for children around the globe.

The partnership agreement between Foothills Presbytery and Kwahu Presbytery, Ghana, provides financial aid for medical services through Donkorkrom Hospital. The Partnership also acts as a conduit to allow Christians from both cultures the opportunity to broaden the understanding of the world church. The Partnership has also expanded its reach to more programs of evangelism and education, sharing Kwahu Presbytery's goal of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to more Ghanaians.

REAP North Peru team, gives advice to missions volunteers before a soccer game

Boots Holder is the strategy coordinator for REAP (Rapid Entry Advance Plan) North Peru. He has lived in Lima for three years with his wife, Katie, and their three children. The rest of his team is comprised of a journeyman and two other missionary couples. They recruit, train and provide resources for volunteers from both Peru and the United States. After that, they let the volunteers go to work in the mountains and jungles of the area. (The Holders are currently in South Carolina on furlough).

Evangelism:

As a church, we are committed to telling the good news about Jesus Christ to all people, inviting them to come and be a part of our common life.
